Or, rather, it worked fine until I updated my iPhone software. Now my phone won't sync with iTunes (a problem, because I love listening to podcasts) and I've had to order a Mountain Lion DVD from Apple (I had to actually call them because it's discontinued and not available in brick or online stores). Once that arrives, I'll have to update to Snow Leopard in order to get the app store so I can buy Mountain Lion so I can download iTunes 10.7 so my phone will sync.

Oops.

...unless it is something really much better than what others are giving me at a fraction of the cost (if not for free), I am going to be a bit savvier

Dude, you're forcing me to go all-caps on your ass:

(ahem)

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS FREE!

You have three choices:
a) Give Apple your money
b) Sell Google your soul
c) Some combination thereof

And now I'm gonna have to get all Biblical on your ass:

"What shall it profit a man if he has gained $50,000 and lose his own soul?"

For God’s sake, man. How much of your life are you going to give away to Google? All your email, your documents, your search history? Why not your wife and kids?

Hey are you still on Facebook ? You really should try out Google+... and Apple is after the same things, by the way, they are just hopelessly behind Google.

1) they made a big stink about not taking photos inside the buildings 2) they wouldn’t let us go anywhere unaccompanied

Well, you have to understand, man -- they know everything about sticking their nose in someone else's business, they surely are not letting you do the same ! I bet all those bathrooms were full of iPhones or iPads for Google employees to get some relief from those horrible Android phones they have to use...

There’s a fundamental reason I’m sticking with Apple. Google is a fine company and the people there are fine. BUT, the difference between Apple and Google is that for Apple, you are the customer

Oh, you've got that one right -- and some customer I have been, believe me (we are easily talking 50 grand in ten years). But now I am at a point where, unless it is something really much better than what others are giving me at a fraction of the cost (if not for free), I am going to be a bit savvier.

PS What is it can you cannot update ?

For God's sake, man. How much of your life are you going to give away to Google? All your email, your documents, your search history? Why not your wife and kids?

Look, I was at Google recently participating in this faculty program thing. Two things annoyed me - 1) they made a big stink about not taking photos inside the buildings - I don't know what the big deal was - there was nothing there but desks, chairs and bouncy balls; 2) they wouldn't let us go anywhere unaccompanied - they had frigging security guards posted in front of the bathrooms. I mean, WTF?

There's a fundamental reason I'm sticking with Apple. Google is a fine company and the people there are fine. BUT, the difference between Apple and Google is that for Apple, you are the customer. For Google, you are the product and advertisers are their customers. Google's loyalty is not to you, and you need to remember that. Always.
