Kidding aside, there are always going to be those for whom locally running applications and local storage of files will be a requirement, but it is my sense that the majority of users won’t need them.
As for airplanes, I bet in five years there will be Internet on board on all flights longer than two hours.

Google apps and storing all your files in the clouds is all well and fine — but what happens if you happen to be in one of these zones with no wireless internet, such as, say, an inflight airplane, an airport terminal in a foreign country with ridiculously overpriced wifi, or a country outside of North America or Western Europe ? Of course, it depends on your own usage. Mine involving field work in remote corners (I’m a geologist), I still definitely need to “physically” carry my files + computing power with me — that is, an old fashioned laptop…
